【外国語部】松本城英語ガイド
On August 4th and 5th, members of Shuho's Foreign Language Club (FLC) joined the Alps Language Service Association (ALSA) for their volunteer guide program at Matsumoto Castle. It was super hot, but everyone did an amazing job!
On day one, we met ALSA members at 9:00 a.m. and had some time to practice before our first tour at 10:00a.m. Each tour was about an hour long, and we each got to guide twice. In between, we relaxed and studied in the Matsumoto City Museum's free space. We wrapped up around 3:30 p.m.
The second day started earlier, with tours beginning at 9:00 a.m. We finished by 2:30 p.m., thanked the ALSA team, and headed home. We got to guide people from all over the world--Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belize, Germany, Russia, Indonesia, Portugal, Italy, and Macedonia. Everyone used English, which really surprised us!
Our tour topics included the castle's inner moat, the masugata gates, shachi roof ornaments, the main tower, and the famous vermillion balcony. We also learned a lot from ALSA and enjoyed chatting with tourists who asked us fun questions about Japan and our school.

"We had a very interesting time with guiding. It was difficult to talk with foreign people in all English, but it was fun to talk about Japan, and their countries. We talked about differences in each country. For example, we guided people from Holland (the Netherlands) and I was surprised that they have no homework on any of their school vacations. They also have more vacations! I want to live there!"
"The French group said that Japanese anime and manga is very popular in France. They read the manga in French! They told us about how many countries have translated anime and manga into their own languages."
"It was very fun! Though I had thought it may not be so difficult to guide until this project stared, it was actually not easy. Especially small talks with tourists were difficult. At the first time, I couldn't do any small talk, but as I tried to talk with tourists I was able to get better. Through this project I could be more positive wile talking in English, and enjoyed talking in English."
"I think each of the guides thought of OMOTENASHI in their own ways when guiding the tourists. I think that the tourists were interested in Japanese school manner, roles and homework during summer vacation. It was difficult to talk in English to foreign people, but it was fun and it was a very very very very good experience."
"I felt the importance of learning another language. I guided people from France, the Netherlands, Russia and Macedonia. Some people translated our English to their native language for their family. I would like to guide in many languages next time!"
８月４日と５日の２日間、松本秀峰中等教育学校外国語部（FLC）のメンバーが、アルプス語学サービス協会（ALSA）のボランティアガイドプログラムに参加しました。真夏の厳しい暑さの中でしたが、最後まで元気にやり遂げました。
１日目は午前９時にALSAの皆さんと集合し、まずはリハーサルからスタート。午前10時には最初のツアーが始まりました。１回のツアーはおよそ１時間で、メンバーはそれぞれ２回ずつガイドを担当しました。合間には松本市立博物館のフリースペースで休憩したり、勉強をして過ごし、午後３時半ごろに終了しました。
２日目は午前９時からツアーを開始し、午後２時半ごろまで活動しました。最後にはALSAの皆さんへ感謝の気持ちをお伝えして解散しました。今回のツアーでは、スペイン・フランス・オランダ・ベリーズ・ドイツ・ロシア・インドネシア・ポルトガル・イタリア・マケドニアなど、世界各国から訪れた観光客を案内しました。多くの方が英語でコミュニケーションを取ってくださったことに驚き、また嬉しく思いました。
ツアーでは、内堀や枡形門、しゃちほこの屋根飾り、天守、そして有名な朱色の月見櫓などを紹介しました。ALSAの方々からもたくさん学ぶことがあり、観光客の皆さんからは日本の文化や学校生活について質問をいただき、交流を楽しむことができました。
ALSAの皆さん、そして観光に来てくださった皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。
FLCメンバーの感想
• 「ガイドはとても面白かったです。全部英語で外国の方と話すのは大変でしたが、日本や相手の国のことを話すのは楽しかったです。オランダから来た人にガイドしたとき、学校の休み中に宿題が全くないと聞いてびっくりしました。しかも休みも多いそうです。住んでみたいなと思いました！」
• 「フランスのグループは、日本のアニメやマンガがとても人気だと言っていました。フランス語に翻訳されたマンガを読んでいると聞きました。多くの国でアニメやマンガが翻訳されていると教えてもらいました。」
• 「本当に楽しかったです！最初はガイドはそんなに難しくないと思っていましたが、実際にやってみると簡単ではありませんでした。特にスモールトークが難しかったです。最初は全然できませんでしたが、何度も挑戦するうちに少しずつできるようになりました。英語を話すことに前向きになれて、楽しむことができました。」
• 「ガイドをするとき、みんなそれぞれ"おもてなし"の気持ちを大切にしていたと思います。観光客の方は、日本の学校のルールや夏休みの宿題などにとても興味を持ってくれました。英語で外国の方と話すのは難しかったですが、とても楽しく、本当に本当に本当に良い経験になりました。」
• 「外国語を学ぶ大切さを実感しました。私はフランス、オランダ、ロシア、マケドニアから来た人を案内しました。中には、私たちの英語を自分の母国語に通訳して家族に伝えている人もいました。次は英語だけでなく、いろいろな言語でガイドしてみたいです！」
