The Foreign Language Club (FLC) enjoyed two productive days during the summer break, making excellent progress on two major projects.

Our first task was completing our submissions for the Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs (FICTS) translation project. Club members selected four international sports films and worked together to time-code, translate, and proofread subtitles from English (and several other languages) into Japanese. These subtitles will be used at an international sports film festival to be held in Nagano. Throughout the project, students from different year levels collaborated as equals, sharing ideas, solving problems together, and learning from one another while developing their communication, translation, and teamwork skills. It was particularly rewarding to see students with different strengths supporting one another and contributing to a shared goal.

The club also took the opportunity to get a head start on preparations for Shuho Fest. While there is still plenty of work ahead, we are pleased with the progress we have made so far. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our interactive “Treasure Hunt” around the school during the festival.

Unfortunately, due to the extreme summer heat, we had to postpone our main summer activity—our Matsumoto Castle guiding programme. Since the beginning of the school year, students have been preparing to guide international visitors around one of Matsumoto’s most iconic landmarks. Although we were disappointed to postpone the activity, we hope to give students the opportunity to put their hard work into practice during the cooler autumn or winter months.
